Curriculum

The curriculum aims to re-engage students with education, build self-esteem and change (challenge) unrewarding behaviours.

The curriculum emphasises personal development through therapeutic and hands-on learning. It stresses the importance of literacy, numeracy, and life skills.

The curriculum is divided into four main elements:

  1. Mathematics and language. These are offered Monday to Thursday before recess. Groups are based on learning style and ability. Students spend 40 minutes per day on each subject.
  2. Core subjects. Art, Physical Education, Technology, Humanities and Health Education are taught to all students in their home groups on a weekly basis.
  3. Electives. These are offered to students three (sometimes four) times a week. Students choose electives from different learning areas. To ensure curriculum balance the units offered might vary each term based on students’ interests.
  4. Home group. Two meetings occur daily, in the morning for 30 minutes and 10 minutes in the afternoon. Home Group is about pastoral care and developing skills such as goal-setting, running meetings, conflict management and working as a group.
