The curriculum aims to re-engage students with education, build self-esteem and change (challenge) unrewarding behaviours.
The curriculum emphasises personal development through therapeutic and hands-on learning. It stresses the importance of literacy, numeracy, and life skills.
The curriculum is divided into four main elements:
- Mathematics and language. These are offered Monday to Thursday before recess. Groups are based on learning style and ability. Students spend 40 minutes per day on each subject.
- Core subjects. Art, Physical Education, Technology, Humanities and Health Education are taught to all students in their home groups on a weekly basis.
- Electives. These are offered to students three (sometimes four) times a week. Students choose electives from different learning areas. To ensure curriculum balance the units offered might vary each term based on students’ interests.
- Home group. Two meetings occur daily, in the morning for 30 minutes and 10 minutes in the afternoon. Home Group is about pastoral care and developing skills such as goal-setting, running meetings, conflict management and working as a group.
